Rich text box is showing html tags

Comments

  • Hello, I am on version 5.18 and I am trying to use a rich text display. If the text is created and then sent to the display it works correctly but if I store the text in a database and then fetch it back out to pass into a rich text display (or rich text box either one) It removes the formatting and then puts in the responding html tags that represent the formatting. Is there a way to make it actually do the formatting after having been stored in a table?

  • Hello,

The rich text box adds the HTML so that it can maintain the formatting from the rich text display. Unchecking the "Send Plain Text to Rules" setting will pass the text without the HTML, but only to data flows, visibility rules, etc.

If you would like to forgo the HTML added by the rich text box, I would recommend using a multi line text box instead.

Please let me know if you have any more questions about this.

    Bests,

    Watson

  • I think there is a misunderstanding. I would like to keep the formatting. But the rich textbox and rich text display output the html tags instead of keeping the formatting. This only occurs if I write the data to a database first. When I do that the rich text display which should show the formatted text starts to output the html tags instead.,

  • Here is an example of what I am seeing (see attached) . The Note in this image is in a Rich text display

  • Hey Jeremy,

Could you please provide answers to the following questions so that we can troubleshoot more effectively?

    1) Where is the initial text coming from? An integrated database table or a Decisions data structure?

    2) How are you adding the text to the above record? If doing so through a Decisions flow, is it being saved to the database through a data flow on a form or a standard flow?

    3) How are you retrieving the text from the database? In workflow and mapping it into the form / rich text display or through a data flow?

  • 1) Decisions Database Structure
    2) It is being saved in a sub dialog flow
    3) The text is retrieved in 2 ways (both with the same result). When the note is created in the sub dialog, I run a sub flow that makes the master note (See below). When a form is first opened it will run a data flow that is the same flow that the sub dialog is running.

For the "Master Note" mentioned above :: The Sub flow that builds the Text field that contains all notes uses a Fetch Entities step and then runs the result through a foreach loop, then it builds the "Master Note" (String) recursively using the "Merge HTML Text" option on the mapping step.

  • Could we take a look at the sub flow / sub dialog flow youre using to create the "Master Note"?
