How do I edit instances of a flow without editing the original version?

I thought that if I were to drag the approval flow you guys created into a flow of my own and then edit the approval flow it would only change that version of the flow, not the core flow. I want to reuse the approval flow in other flows I create. However when I went to use the approval flow a second time it was not the original flow but the one I had change it to.

All flows in Decisions exist as a single entity. When you call a flow within a flow (we often refer to this as a linked flow) you are just creating a pointer" to the single version of that flow. If you edit that subflow
