Saving Selected DropDown Item into Defined Type

Saving Selected DropDown Item into Defined Type

  • Hello,

I have a question regarding the drop-down list component that may exist in a form. Is there any way I can display a list of outcomes based on a data structure field I created?

(I would like to display the following “categories” as a drop down list in order to for the user to select one of the “categories” and for it to be saved into my data structure.)

Please check the below steps about creating a dynamic dropdown list component based on your data structure. Explanations are based on the attached example project. I created a Defined Data Structure named Computer and its Color property is being created by dropdown menu selection data.

    1. Use Fetch Entities step to fetch current data to your flow. You need to select your data type in the Type Name section.

    2. Create a form with a data grid inside to enable data selection. Create another form with a dropdown static list. Map Initially Visible Data as the output of Fetch Entities step in the second form. Complete mapping as shown below.

    3. Drag related type Edit step from the steps menu. Complete the mapping by selecting the Build Data option.

So, basically, this flow will fetch data and reflect previously selected Color property on a drop-down selection. If a user changes the selection and submit, the Color field of that selection will be updated and next time when the user runs the same flow new value will be shown.

If you need to create new data you have to add Create Computer step to this flow. Based on your use case it could be a new optional create button on the main form that navigates to create data form or sub-dialog data flow. (I added a create data example to the attached project)

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please let me know.
