Update Relationships on Selective Update Step

Update Relationships on Selective Update Step

Comments

  • Hi,

What does Update Relationships on the Selective update Flow Step do?

    Thanks.

  • Hello,
The check box on that step is so that any other tables that share a relationship with the one you are selectively updating, gets that relationship updated based on what you changed. Let us know if you have any more questions!

  • I have not been able to get this to work despite trying a few different approaches. Is there any documentation or examples available to confirm how this needs to be setup to work properly?

  • Hello Myles,

Decisions can maintain parent-child relationships between two data structures. Selecting "Update Relationships" on a selective update step for a parent data structure will tell Decisions to update data for any columns in related tables in addition to the updating the parent table.

The easiest way to visualize this yourself would be to nest a database structure inside of another database structure, create an item of this type with another item of the nested type inside of it, and query the tables for both data types. Put a selective update step for the parent data type in a flow and make sure you input the ID of the parent data item and that you map in the ID for the nested item via the build data mapping option.

Run the flow with and without "Update Relationships" checked and query the database tables after each run. Running the test flow with this option selected should update columns in the table for the nested structure.
