Help with External Entity Setup
Comments
-
I have been working on using a user defined external entity to grab data from a web service and use it to populate the entity. The start step of the fetch (or fetch all) flow doesnt allow for any inputs. I need to be able to specify inputs to determine which data to grab from the web service. The web service has two input parameters, but I cant pass anything to it because the start step for the flow doesnt allow for input.

Regarding your questions for external entities, please see our responses inline below:
1) Is this data cached locally, or is all the data fetched every single time the external entity is used for each user?
[ul][li]This is not cached. How much data is returned depends on how you use the external entity. If you select the external entity as a datasource for a report, then yes it will run the fetch all flow you setup.[/li][li]Instead, you will need to report on the database data source and override the entity actions with your external entitys actions. This way you can add filters in the report designer and these get added as where" clauses in the query instead of Decisions filtering the entire data set returned from the Fetch All[/li][/ul]
2) If its cached
