AD Authentication when not using AD to federate logins

I am looking to use the active directory module, but we don't plan on using it to federate logins. Do we have to set up AD authentication if we don't plan to use it for logins?

Yes, you will have to set up AD authentication to use the AD module. We have documentation linked below that has instructions for setting up AD server authentication. This documentation can also be found linked in the prerequisites section of the Active Directory module documentation.
