Turning on flow execution statistics?

In 4.0.23, when I check this checkbox and create a new flow, the flow is created with a Setup Process Folder step relabeled “Setup Execution Statistics”. This is a problem for us because Process Folders have a lot of overhead.

Does 5.x and newer versions of Decisions use Process Folders to track statistics?
If so, is there another way to record statistics with less overhead?

In the flow(s) you want to capture data from, under Statistics, there is a Capture Statistics checkbox. Check that, save and close, then run flow. The table should be populated with a new row.
