Print Report with User given Value List values

Hi,
I need a report to print the actual value of Value List item, rather than the internally saved DB value.
For egs: ValueList "Status" has values Assigned [Assigned], In-Progress [InProgress], Submitted - Pending Verification [SubmittedPendingVerification], Under Verification [UnderVerification]
The values in braces denote how value list saves it and displays it in a report on that data.
I need it to show the way I stored it, with spaces and hyphens. How to do that ? Any help appreciated
